The No Follow setting specifies whether comments and/or trackbacks are included in the Google ranking system. Since many trackback and comment spammers are spamming for the purpose of manipulating search engine rankings, using No Follow removes any benefit in search engine ranking that a spammer might receive by being linked to from your blog. For more information, see Google's initial announcement about the No Follow specification.
