Ecto Screenshot BlogHarbor weblogs support the use of weblog client tools which allow you to post articles and images to your weblog using a familiar Windows or Mac OS based interface, rather than the web-based interface of the Blog Admin Control Panel.

Weblog editors add additional capabilites which are not possible when editing via the web control panel, allowing advanced bloggers increased flexibility when posting articles and images. BlogHarbor weblogs support the Movable Type API, which allows you to post to your BlogHarbor weblog using popular weblog client tools such as NewzCrawler or w.bloggar or Blogjet for Windows, or ecto, a blogging client for Mac OS X.

Ecto for Mac OS X is a new weblog client with such features such as support for multiple weblogs, iTunes integration, an advanced file and image upload tool with iPhoto import, and HTML previews. The trial version of ecto is a free full-featured version that will expire after 14 days of use; ecto is priced at $$17.95.

This article will walk you through the steps of setting up ecto to access your BlogHarbor weblog.

BlogHarbor is not a partner of or affiliated in any way with ecto, however we have tested this software and found that it is compatible with BlogHarbor weblogs. ecto was easy to download and configure, and we were able to post to our BlogHarbor weblog in minutes.

Step 1: Launch ecto
The first step in configuring ecto is to launch the program; you will be presented with the Account Assistant. Enter the URL of your weblog here. In the screenshot below, you see we entered the address for our BlogHarbor demo weblog.

ecto Account Assistant - Enter URL

Step 2: Choose Blog type
Next you will choose a Server from the drop down list, choose BlogHarbor and the other fields will be set automatically.

Step 3: Enter Username and Password
Now enter the Username and Password for your BlogHarbor weblog. This would be the same Username and Password you use to access the Blog Admin Control Panel.

ecto Account Assistant - Enter Login Info

Step 4: Enter Account Name
Now you just need to enter a name for this weblog account: this title is used only by ecto as a way for you to identify this particular blog in the case that you use ecto to manage multiple blogs; this setting does not alter the name of the weblog itself.

You should now be able to create new articles and edit existing ones using ecto!

ecto Support
Support for ecto is available via their website. If you have any questions about configuring ecto for use with your BlogHarbor weblog, please ask them on our community forums.
