In addition to posting new articles, you can also continue working on articles you've saved or even make changes to articles that you've already published.
There are three steps to editing an article:
Selecting an Article to Edit
Before you can edit an article, you must first select one to edit. There are two sections where you can do this:
Opening an Article From the Dashboard
One of the lists on the Dashboard is the Recent Articles list, which can list the 5, 25 or 100 most recently-posted entries. If the entry you want to edit is within the 100 most recent, you can use the Recent Articles list to select it.
To open an article for editing from the Dashboard:
| 1. | Click on the Dashboard tab in the Navigation Bar.
|
| 2. | Click on the title of the article you wish to edit in the Recent Articles list. You may need to increase the number of items displayed by the list.
|
Opening an Article From the Post Manager
The Post Manager lets you access any entry in your blog. You can use it to retrieve any entry to work on it further, no matter how old it is.
To open an article for editing from the Post Manager:
| 1. | Click the Post Manager tab in the Navigation Bar.
|
| 2. | Click on the title of the article to edit in the list. Depending on when the article was posted, you may need to increase the number of items displayed by the list or jump to another page in the list to find it.
|
Making Changes to the Article
You make changes to articles in the Edit Article page for that article. The Edit Article page is similar to the Post Article page, with only a few differences.
Comments, Trackbacks and Publish Date and Time
For published articles, the Edit Article page lists the number of comments made to the article, the number of trackbacks pointing to the article and the date and time it was published:
In the case where the published article has received comments or trackbacks:
| · | The word "Comments" is linked to the Comments page for the article, where you can view all its comments. You can also delete selected comments from this page.
|
| · | The word "Trackbacks" is linked to the Trackbacks page for the article, where you can view all its trackbacks. You can also delete selected trackbacks from this page.
|
|
Comments and Trackbacks are covered in detail in the Comments and Trackbacks chapters, respectively.
|
|
For draft articles, the
Edit Article page lists the number of comments made to the article (which will be zero), the number of trackbacks pointing to the article (which will also be zero) and its publish date and time will be "N/A":
Article Title and Article Body
The Article Title and Article Body fields in the Edit Article page are just like those in the Post Article page.
To change the title of the article:
| · | Change the text in the Article Title field.
|
To change the text of the article:
| · | Change the text in the Article Body field.
|
Excerpt
The Excerpt field in the Edit Article page is just like the one in the Post Article page.
To change an existing excerpt:
| · | Change the text in the Excerpt field.
|
To create an excerpt:
| · | Enter the text for the excerpt into the Excerpt field. HTML tags may be used to format the excerpt.
|
To remove an excerpt:
| · | Delete all text from the Excerpt field.
|
Publish Date Controls
For draft articles, the publishing date controls are the same as those in the Post Article page. For more details, see the Changing the Publication Date and Time section.
For published articles, the
Publish this article / Finish this article later options are replaced with a checkbox marked Reset the publish time:
The
Reset the publish time checkbox allows the article's publication date and time to be modified. You can keep the original publication date and time, change the publication date and time to the current date and time, or change it to a date and time in the past.
To keep the article's original publication date:
| 1. | Clear the Reset the publish time checkbox.
|
To change the article's publication date and time to the current date and time:
| 1. | Click the Reset the publish time checkbox.
|
| 2. | Select today's date from the menu.
|
Changing the publication date and time to the current date and time will make the article the topmost one in the Main Page of your blog.
To change the article's publication date and time to a date and time in the past:
| 1. | Click the Reset the publish time checkbox.
|
| 2. | Select a date in the past from the drop-down list.
|
| 3. | Enter the date and time to publish the article using the Republish date controls.
|
Changing the publication date and time to a date and time in the past may move the article on or off the Main Page of the blog, depending on what that date is.
