Adding a user with custom permissions
To add a user with custom permissions, follow these steps:
Go
to the "Add User" Page of the Address Book
The
first step is to click the Settings & Security tab in your control
panel. Then click on User Permissions in the row of Options
underneath that tab. The User Permissions page will present you with the options to
List
Users, Add User, Invite User, or Manage Groups. Click on the link to Add Users.
You will be taken to the Add User page, which looks like this:
Select
"Custom" from the "Permission Type" Menu
The
Add User page is where you give a user permissions to access your blog.
The first step to adding a user is specifying the type of user.
In this case, we want to make this user a user with custom permissions, so select
Custom from the Permission Type menu.
Enter
the User's Information into the Appropriate Form
The next step is enter the user's information. There are two places where you
can enter information, and where you enter it depends on whether the user already
has a Blogware account:
|
· |
If
the user already has a BlogHarbor user account:
|
|
Click
the Existing User option and enter the user's username into the Username
field of the Existing User form.
|
|
|
|
· |
If
the user does not have a BlogHarbor user account:
|
|
In
this case you will be doing two things at once: creating a new account for
the user and giving that account user with custom permissions privileges.
|
|
Click
the New User option and enter the fill in the fields of the New
User form.
|
|
You
must fill in these fields:
|
|
· |
Password
and Confirm Password
|
|
Filling
in these fields is optional:
|
Click
the "Add User" Button
Once you have finished filling out the appropriate form, click the Add User
button.
You will be taken to the User Permissions page for the user you just added
as a user with custom permissions:
Specify
the user's custom permissions
Farther down the User Permissions page is the Category Permissions checklist.
It lists all the Categories and Photo Albums in your weblogs, with a Read
and Post checkbox beside each. This checklist lets you assign the user
permission to read or post to specific Categories or Photo Albums.
To give a user the permission to read a Category or Photo Album, check its corresponding
Read checkbox.
To give a user the permission to post to a Category or Photo Album, check its
corresponding Post checkbox.
In the example below, the user is being given permission to read the "Current
Affairs" Category and post to the "Music" category.
Being able to post to a Category or Photo Album implies being able to read it.
Therefore, checking Post for a Category or Photo Album will also automatically
check its Read checkbox.
The checkboxes work in a similar way with permissions. Let's suppose the following:
|
· |
The
"Self-portraits" and "Cats" Photo Albums are set to inherit permissions
from their parent, the "Photos" Photo Album.
|
|
· |
The
"Cheddar" Category is set not to inherit permissions from its parent, "Cheese",
and "Cheese" is set not to inherit permissions from "Food and Drink".
|
The screen shot below shows how the checkboxes work with inheritance:
Click
the "Save Changes" Button
Once you've specified the user's custom permissions, click the Save Changes
button to activate them.
If you look at your list of users (do this by clicking on List Users in
the User Permissions menu) you'll see the user with custom permissions
you just added is now in the list.
If the user you just added was given only "Read" permissions, s/he will have Reader
in his/her Permissions column:
If the user you just added was given "Post" permissions on at least one Category
or Photo album, s/he will have Poster in his/her Permissions column:
Deleting
a user with custom permissions
To delete a user with custom permissions, follow these steps:
Go
to the "List Users" Page of the User Permissions
Click
the Settings & Security tab of the Navigation Bar, then click
on User Permissions in the row of Options underneath that
tab. The User Permissions page will present you with the options to
List
Users, Add User, Invite User, or Manage Groups. Click on the link to List Users.
Select
the user with custom permissions You Wish to Delete
To select users to delete, check their corresponding Delete checkbox.
In the example below, the user whose username is "anotherexample" is marked for
deletion.
Click
the "Delete Selected" Button
Once you have finished selecting users to delete, click the Delete Selected
button.
Click
"OK" When the "Are You Sure?" Window Appears
A window will appear, asking "Are You Sure?".
To continue and delete the users you selected, click OK. To cancel the
operation and keep the users, click Cancel.
If you clicked OK, the users will be deleted and the page will reload and
display a "Changes saved" message near the top.
