Sending
Invitations
The steps to sending invitations are:
Go
to the "Add User" page of the User Permissions
The
first step is to click the Settings & Security tab in your control
panel. Then click on User Permissions in the row of Options
underneath that tab. The User Permissions page will present you with the options
to List
Users, Add User, Invite User, or Manage Groups. Click on the link to Invite
User. You will be taken to the Send Invitation page, which looks like this:
Fill
out the "Send Invitation" Form
The Send Invitation form is shown below:
|
|
It has these fields:
|
Select
the type of specialized user you're inviting people to be. The choices are:
|
|
Selecting
this invites people to become a reader of your weblog.
|
|
Selecting
this invites people to become contributors to your weblog.
|
|
Selecting
this invites people to become administrators of your weblog.
|
|
Choosing
any one of these options causes the Subject and Message fields
to fill with the appropriate text.
|
|
This
is the "From:" address that will appear on the email. It will be automatically
filled out with your display name and the email address in your BlogHarbor
account.
|
|
This
is where you can specify up to 50 recipients for an invitation. You can
enter:
|
|
If
you enter more than one recipient, separate them with commas.
|
|
This
is the subject line that will appear on the email. Its default content is
determined by the selection made in the Invite user to be menu, but
you can change it to your own subject line if you like.
|
|
This
optional field lets you add a personalized message to the email invitation.
If you enter text into this field, it will replace the text "[Your Message Here]"
in the Message field.
|
|
This
is the body text of the email. This cannot be changed.
|
Click
the "Send Now" button
Once you have filled out the Send Invitation form, click the Send Now
button to send out your invitations. You will be sent to the List Users
page, which will display a message that reads "Invitations queued for processing"
message.
Wait
for the Invitee to Respond
The invitee will receive the email shortly after you click the Send Now
button, after which they have the choice for accepting or declining the invitation
(see The
Invitee's Point of View for more information). You will receive an
email notification when each invitee accepts or declines your invitation.
The
Invitee's Point of View
Here's
what happens when people receive your invitations:
The
Email Arrives in the Invitee's Mailbox
The invitations are sent within a few minutes of your clicking the Send Now
button. Part of the message is an URL that they can follow (most email clients
will allow you to click on URLs, which opens them up in a browser window).
The
Invitee Follows the Link Provided in the Email to the "Confirm Invitation"
page
When the user follows the link, s/he will be taken to the Confirm Invitation
page:
The
Invitee Accepts or Declines the Invitation
What happens next depends on whether the invitee has a BlogHarbor user account.
|
· |
If
the invitee wants to accept the invitation and already has a BlogHarbor
user account:
|
|
S/he
should enter his/her username and password into the corresponding fields
in the Your Login Information form and click the Accept button.
|
|
If
the invitee clicks the Accept button, s/he will be taken to a page
confirming the invitation's acceptance:
|
|
· |
If
the invitee wants to accept the invitation and doesn't have a BlogHarbor
user account:
|
|
S/he
should click on the Sign up link in "Sign up for a new account".
S/he will be taken to a page where s/he can sign up for an account:
|
|
After
filling out the form and clicking the Signup button, the invitee
will be taken to a page that explains that s/he will receive an email that
will ask him/her to confirm his/her request for an account.
|
|
The
invitee will receive another email asking him/her to confirm his/her request
for an account. The email will have an URL in it; following this URL will
activate the invitee's account and take him/her to the Account Settings
page where s/he can fill out more information for his/her account:
|
|
· |
If
the user doesn't want to accept the invitation:
|
|
S/he
should click on the Reject button.
